In this article, you will learn about different contribution maturities and how they affect the payment run.

Maturities in the member account
Creating a payment run depends on two factors: the payment run group assigned to the membership and customer, and the maturity date. You can find the maturity date in the member account under Account, shown in the Date column.
You define the maturity of contributions directly when configuring a rate. If you use that rate for a membership, you can still adjust the contribution maturity individually for the member.
Under Settings / Membership management / Rates, you can open your rates and edit the payment method afterwards as well.
Here you can, for example, set a default maturity day. No matter which day your member's membership starts on, you can then collect contributions on the maturity day you defined.
Maturity in the payment run
If you want to collect your payment run for the period 1 to 31 March, for example, you can set the maturity date in the payment run screen under Claims up to and including. In our example, that would be 1 March. The Collection date automatically adjusts to 1 March as well. This way, all claims maturing on 1 March for the period 1 to 31 March can be collected together.
Optionally, you can restrict which open claims the payment run includes. In the „Create Payment run“ window, tick the checkbox „Restrict period for open claims“ and use the two date fields to define the period:
- „From“: start date of the claim period.
- „Claims up to and including“: end date. All open claims due on or before this date are included.
Please note: With the current payment method, the maximum number of days in the future for debt claims is limited to 14 days in advance. Otherwise a higher chargeback risk is to be expected.
Special case for Finion MemberCash and Finion DirectDebit: if you collect SEPA direct debits via one of these automated payment providers, you can choose a Claims up to and including date much further in advance than before; the selection is no longer limited to the day after tomorrow. We can't currently give you a fixed, universal lead time in days, since it depends on your individual configuration. If you still receive an error message for the date you chose, please contact support. (As of: 2026-08-05)
If you run payment runs via credit card, the Claims up to and including date cannot be in the future, because your members' credit cards are charged immediately and any failed payments are posted right away. So schedule credit card payment runs directly on the maturity date, for example on the 1st of every month.
Working with varying maturities
If you set the membership start date and the maturity to the same day and allow a day-exact start, maturities can vary considerably.
If a member starts on the 17th of a month, the maturity of their contributions always falls on the 17th of a month as well; if a membership starts on the 3rd of a month, the maturity falls on the 3rd of that month too.
A claim can only be collected once its maturity date has been reached. Collecting a contribution before its maturity is not possible.
If you create a payment run with Claims up to and including set to 3 April, that payment run can only be collected on 3 April as well.
A member who started on 17 March would appear with their March claim (service period 17 March to 16 April) in that payment run in early April.
To avoid frequently creating multiple payment runs, we recommend setting the maturity to the same day for all members, such as the 1st of the month. Even if you work with several payment run groups, such as "on the 1st of the month" and "on the 15th of the month", you should choose a consistent maturity day within each group. This keeps you flexible: for example, if a member should no longer be billed on the 15th but on the 1st of the month, you only need to change their payment run group.
