What is a membership upgrade
With a membership upgrade, your members can switch their existing membership to a new membership offer themselves in the Member Platform. You define which source rates can be upgraded and which offers members can choose from. You also set up the banner that informs members about the upgrade and the consent text they accept before completing it.
Create a membership upgrade
- Go to Settings / Membership signing / Memberships upgrades.
- Click Create membership upgrade at the top right.
- Enter a name in the Name field and click Save.
The new membership upgrade appears in the list with its status (Active or Inactive) and the number of facilities. Click the row to open the detail view.
The detail view contains five tiles: Source rates, Banner presentation, Upgrade offers, Promotion and User consent. Each tile has its own three-dot menu.
Add source rates
Source rates define which memberships can be upgraded. Members whose membership matches a source rate are offered the upgrade.
- In the Source rates tile, open the three-dot menu and click Add source rate.
- Under Valid for, choose one of the options:
- Single rate: select the Rate. Under Rate details, choose All rate details or one specific term of the rate.
- Rate code: select the Rate code.
- Click Save.
You can add several source rates. To remove one, open the three-dot menu of its row and click Remove source rate.
Set up the banner presentation
The banner informs your members about the membership upgrade. In the Banner presentation tile, open the three-dot menu and click Edit banner. You can set the following:
- Banner size: Small or Big.
- Banner text: the text shown on the banner.
- Banner Image: optionally upload a background image.
- Discount badge: an optional text, for example to point out a discount.
The discount badge is text only. The actual conditions of the new membership are set in the configuration of the membership offer, not here.
Add upgrade offers
Upgrade offers are the membership offers your members can switch to.
- In the Upgrade offers tile, click Add membership offer (below the list or in the tile's three-dot menu).
- Select one or more of your existing membership offers and click Add.
If you add several offers, drag and drop them to set the order in which they are shown to your members.
Each offer has its own three-dot menu:
- Activate recommendation: marks the offer as recommended. It is labelled Recommended and highlighted for your members. Use Deactivate recommendation to undo this.
- Remove from configuration: removes the offer from this membership upgrade.
Configure the promotion
In the Promotion tile, you define where and when the banner is shown. Open the tile's three-dot menu. The Edit configuration dialog opens with these fields:
- Show banner on: choose one or more of App dashboard, Studio page and Self-Service.
- Show banner after number of visits: enter a number.
- Let users dismiss banner: tick this checkbox if members may close the banner. Only then the field Reactivate banner after dismiss appears, where you enter a number and a time unit after which the banner is shown again.
Edit the user consent
The User consent tile contains the text your members have to accept at the last step of the upgrade process. A default text is already stored. To change it, open the tile's three-dot menu, click Edit configuration, adjust the text and save.
Use the text to obtain your members' consent on topics that matter for the switch, for example revoking an existing cancellation so that the membership can be upgraded.
Activate the membership upgrade for facilities
Your members only see a membership upgrade once it is active. Activate it for each facility where it should be offered:
- Open the three-dot menu at the top right of the detail view, or the three-dot menu of the row in the list.
- Click Manage activation.
- In the dialog, select all facilities for which the membership upgrade should be active.
- Click Save.
If your account has only one facility, the menu shows Activate membership upgrade instead of Manage activation.
Rename, deactivate or delete a membership upgrade
- Edit membership upgrade: changes the name.
- Deactivate membership upgrade: available for an active membership upgrade. After you confirm, it is no longer offered to your members.
- Delete membership upgrade: available in the three-dot menu of the row in the list once the membership upgrade is inactive.
What members see
Once the membership upgrade is active, members with a matching source rate see the banner in the places you selected under Show banner on, with the banner text, image and discount badge you configured. They then see the upgrade offers in the order you set, with the recommended offer highlighted. Before completing the upgrade, members have to accept the user consent text by ticking a checkbox.
